got my dynaspark in!

Finally got my dynaspark in. For those of you who don’t know what it is, its basically a high performance redesign of the optispark. Its got a billet backing plate and is fully sealed from moisture, and is totally rebuidlable. http://www.dynotech-eng.com/dynaspark.htm

Anyhow, its pretty sweet. Since I don’t have any miles on it, its hard to say about longevity, etc.. but one thing that is pretty sweet is that it comes with a spec sheet that has detailed specs for everything opti related, so you can make sure that your cam bolts/etc are all with in spec so you don’t trash an opti.

Anyway, just thought I would say something since few of you knew I had ordered one. Ill let yall know more once I get it running. Ill have pics on my site in a few days

How much do you have left until you fire it up. Also you were wiring in a boost controller( right?) how did that go?
How come you didnt go with the LTCC or something of that sort?

How does it compare to the Opti as far as cost? Considerably more expensive??

Jordan, I just got mine (that I ordered on January 11th) in the mail last week and I've begun the work to install mine. I got the red anodizing version. I also agree that the instruction/data sheet is exceptionally informative and well done. The staff at DTE have been great to work with and are very responsive.

Did you have any problem modifiing the one wiring connector? It looks like a straight forward procedure according to the directions.

How much are they, and where do I get one????? My Opti is on borrowed time- 157,000 total miles, so I'm trying to get it replaced before it surprises me.....

I got mine in a couple of weeks ago. Due to some problems elsewhere, I haven't got the car running yet, but it will be going soon. The thing looks very well built and well sealed. I'm looking forward to trying it out.

Jordon:

How does the optical section look with regards to upgrades?

For those of us who are only using the optical section to drive aftermarket computers/ignition systems, improved reliability is still important. Freedom from rust particle buildup would be a step in the right direction, obviously helped by the improved moisture sealing. I would hope they have done something about the low carbon steel bearing retainer plate, which seems to be the biggest contributor to the rust problem.

I guess it might be worth contacting them to see if they would build a unit with only the optical section.........

As I remember from one of the DTE posts a while back, the optical pickup is the same as the stock unit. I don't know if the plate is made from different material. One benefit of this thing is that they can rebuild it for a fraction of the cost of a new one. FWIW, the sealing on these things look like they could take a pressure wash with ease. Even the plugs are revised and sealed.

If I read between the lines a little, you're thinking that one of these with the LTCC or your external setup would make for an extremely robust ignition system. I've been thinking that too. Expensive, for sure, but it would probably last a long time and I could use the stock PCM.

If you were to email or call Phil at DTE directly, he could answer your questions about a special unit. I've called and emailed and he's been available and willing to answer my questions. He does answer email himself. They seem like a class outfit.

Nateh, I agree I believe that component is oem one. Since the warranty is voided is one opens the case, I don't plan to check it. BTW, this opti is exceptionally well sealed and has all the appearance of being a quality, hand-bilt and well though out opti replacement.

I was thinking the same thing....but I'm on my third gm optispark now, and if I don't have to go through three more, it will have paid for itself. The time alone for replacing three would make it worthwhile for me.

Jordon, keep us posted.

Any word from Dynatech on how long this thing will last until it needs rebuilt?
I've never had an Opti go bad on me (knock on wood). I replaced my Original Opti at 80k miles, and that was because I was putting a new 383 and didn't want to take unnecessary chances. It helps I have the vented style.
