Re: Got my AFR heads flowed...not to bad.

Get some bare AFR 210's for under $1000 and send them to Lloyd ... parts, assembly etc - he can do it for under another $1000 .... and they'll be some badass heads rest assured. Inexpensive.....
Have you done this or are you quoting what you've read on the board previously?

The reason I ask, is because there is a lot of good information available here but also some false info as well.

For example, a set of BARE AFR's are just that, bare with NO, NADA, NOTHING as far as port work done. Don't think these things are even going to look as good as stock LT1 heads. There is enormous amounts of material that must be taken off. This is why AFR offers a 70% CNC port job on their economy head and doesn't sell many that are assembled with NO port work.

Second, any good porter when given that chunk of aluminum to start with is going to charge you more than $1000 to get guarantteed 300+ cfm @ .600". I have heard that LLoyd does great work but I can't see you getting the AFR raw castings flowing good numbers from him for ~$600 (1k minus the $400 in valvetrain items) Even if you did get the heads for 1k and the porting for 1k, you still need $250 in valves, $250 in springs, $150 in retainers and locks, $100 in shims and rocker studs, seals. (These valvetrain prices are based on using good parts for a solid roller or aggressive hydraulic)

So, unless you have all these misc parts and valvetrain items laying around, you are in the $2,500 range immediately, then for numbers better than the 300cfm that AFR gives you with their CNC work, you will guaranteed pay more than $1,000, so now you are pushing $3,000 or so, maybe more.

Just wanted to give a perspective from someone who crunched numbers every which way to see what was cheapest before I bought my AFR 220's. I ended up going with the fully ported competition AFR's for that reason.
