got $2000, need help on deciding what to do

ive got about 2k to play with. everything ive got is in sig except for gears, shift kit, and pulleys are waiting to be installed. ive been tryin to do as much research possible before calling anywhere about a H/C package. i know the price range for AI and LE, but how much more do you think im gonna need for the necessities such as TB, injectors and what not? second question is, should i go the cheaper route and mess with the stockers and intake or should i wait another year and save for an AI afr lt4 setup. if you need to know, the car is in great condition w/ only 50k miles. eventually i will do a 383 forged setup, but not until i graduate school and have some real money to spend. thanks for all the input.

i would look at getting sticky tires. along with getting a good stall.also look at getting a cam. u don't necessarly need a head/cam package. it all depends on the application u want.

do u want to make horsepower and not make an et slip, or would u like to get a better et slip with less horsepower. some suspension may be a good idea.

what do u think about nitrous. it the best bang for the buck.

my minor bolt-on (sock head, intake, cam, internal LT1) made 411rwhp and 492ft-lbs or tq. and i don't even have a good tune for the stock motor. i don't have any et slips with the nitrous though.

I'll be the dissenter here. Save your money until you get out of school. If that's your budget, you can't afford an 11-second N/A street car, and you don't want to pay for the upkeep on such a car. In most cases, when you start the serious mods, your engine is on borrowed time - and I include nitrous in that catagory too.

Sounds like you have a really nice car and with what little has already been done to it, it will suit your needs reliably until you finish school and can afford another car for when that car is down.

Re: got $2000, need help on deciding what to do

well, im definately not one for nitrous. ive got a friends nittos that i use. i dont want a stall until i have just about everying done to the car or when i build the tranny, and id rather do suspension stuff after i take care of engine mods unless you think its smarter to put my money into that first. i have a beater car if something would go wrong. well i have 2k now (i know thats def not enough for a 11s car), and im gonna have at least another 2k come summertime. i guess it would prob be smarter to save until this point next year for H/C.

If you want to gain the most ET for a reasonable amount of money (besides nitrous), go with a vig 2800 and 3.73's. That alone will knock a solid amount off of your ET.

Id get a 9" or 12 bolt rear end. I am sure you could find a used one for about that much, then you really don't have to worry about much else breaking.

Re: got $2000, need help on deciding what to do

I agree with drivetrain/suspension first, then motor. I have a bolt-on motor and it's trashed an LSD, broken a ring gear, destroyed u-joints, etc. I'm not doing anymore mods to the motor until the tranny/rearend can handle it.
