Is this a good price for a valve job?
It's a ball park price. Can't comment on the quality, so I don't know if it's a good value though. My friend Bob used to get $150 for a valve job. This was 10-15y ago when he had the best reputation among racers in the area for doing valve jobs. These days he doesn't do many, but charges $200-250 depending on how long it takes.
When redoing heads you need to check the valve stem to valve guide clearance. If it's excessive, new valve guides need to be installed. Someone familiar with heads can tell by feel if they are too loose. After the valve job be sure the heads are scrupulously clean prior to reinstalling them.
