hey i have a 96 ss and i'm thinking about putting a gear in my car...obviously if i plan on spending the money on a gear i want to go ahead and put a 4:10 in there...i am also pretty set on GM Motive gears b/c i heard they are for the most part the quietest...my question is will i have any problems of breaking anything if i run on street tires and just make a couple of passes on the track from time to time...and is a girdle a good investment or just a waste of money...any help would be appreciated ..thanks

I mean you could have problems with breaking stuff with them. But you can have the same problems without them. It just depends on how hard you launch and how well the tires stick. If your on street tires you should be okay. But its gonna be tricky trying to get some traction with street tires and 4.10's at the track. The girldle would probably help a little. But most people say its not worth the money.

 

THe girdle is a good investment...it's not about performance it's about helping your car out.

 

If your rear is going to break, its going to break Spending $150 for a 'girdle' isn't going to let you launch hard with dr's or slicks. Buy the gears and save the $$$ from the T/A girdle for a 12bolt No point in putting money into something weak.

WHy the hell did they but Glass Rears on these cars?

 

Asked many times and the most common advise is to go with the 3:73 for an auto and the 4:10's with the M6.
Then again, it's your car!!

 

How do you know what he has? I don't see him saying anywhere that he has a a4 or m6. I'm assuming he has a m6 if he's going with 4.10's.

HYSR is right there is no point in beefing up a crappy part. That is gonna break no matter what.
