Question Good cam??? lemme know...

im looking at getting the "Comp Cams XFI LT1 Camshaft, 218 / 224, .570 / .565 113 LSA"... for my LT1... is this a good cam and what is the powerband like?? any info would be great. Also i am going to get:
-Comp Cams Hi-Tech One-Piece Chromemoly pushrods, 7.200"
- Manley Performance Valve Springs, LS1/LT1/LT4/L98, 1.290 diameter, Double spring w/o damper, max lift .650"
is there anything else i should get for the cam install? tks...

Since you posted in Advanced tech (not really an advanced tech question).. I gotta mess with ya some.

Do some deeper reading as to what exactly those springs work for, then get back to us if you think they'll still work

Pushrods should be fine, I've not run that cam myself nor seen results, so I can't say.

-Comp Cams 26113 Ovate Beehive Spring, recommended for use with CompCams Modular Camshafts(works with stock retainers & locks), maximum lift of .550"

Read what you typed VERY closely. You're going to try to run springs with a max lift of .550 on a cam with .570 max lift?!

Get some 26918 beehive springs which is what the xfi cams were ground for specifically. I'm going to run a larger custom xfi cam since I like the aggressive ramp rates. That should be a decent mild cam, prolly from 2200-6200 RPM, but I'm not exactly sure. Call Comp and they'll tell ya exactly. You could use the Hi-Tech or Magnum pushrods.

Springs don't care what it says on the valve cover... so no they are not just for LS motors.

I'm running the largest XFI cam (2200-6300) w/ the beehives in my 396. It is a really great cam! My Z28 runs low 11s at over 120 MPH (all N/A).

Also, there have been several previous threads on the new Comp XFI cams.

Do you think that RPM range would be different for a 355 engine?

You're dealing with two factors here for the cam to match the engine, stroke and head flow. First, the short stroke 350 (3.48") should handle more RPMs that the really long stroke 396 (3.875"), or 383 (3.75"). The heads you use will play a major factor at what RPM the 350 makes its HP and torque. Basically, the cam and heads need to match.

With my 396, I expected it to be a high-torque, low-RPM engine (6600 max). So, I selected the large XFI cam (2200-6300) along with AFR 195 heads to compliment that RPM range, as opposed to 210 heads that would probably make the most HP at 7000 RPM+.

My engine combination (396, XFI cam & AFR 195s) along with Bryan Herter's tuning (PCMforLess) is making some great HP (low 11s @ 120+ MPH).

The cam you are talking about in a 350 with unported heads would be a great all around cam. It will probably have a nice lope at 700, and will make peak power around 5500 I would guess. My 224/230 cam peaked at 5800 and laid flat all the way to valve float. A 2600 stall would probably work ok for this cam although a 3200 would be ideal. I used a 2600 cheapo s-10 converter and ran 12.10 with a cam only app. When I switched to the 3800 EDGE, my 60 foot dropped pretty significantly and put me into 11.70's.

If you don't use alot of gear (4.10 or lower), this is a good choice IMHO.
