Good cam for a bolt-on LT1 swap into a thirdgen?
Good cam for a bolt-on LT1 swap into a thirdgen?
I'm going to pick up a LT1/4L60E tomorow. Comes with damn near everything I can see. Swap harness, new vented opti, but some older stock sensors (I'll replace nearly everything cause I'm ****).
But the question remains, what cam to go with? I've read about quite a few and this is what the car MUST do. It has to be able to pass emissions with just a good tune and cat-converter.
I already have a LT4 Hot-cam, and will probably go with that unless anyone else can recommend a cam that has similar idle characteristics and will work okay with 3.23's. I know thats not quite enough to work just right, but the rest can come later.
Looking at Hot-cam (already have)
XE 224/230
Comp 224/236
CC 305
I have a LT1/4L60E, Hooker Supercomps, SLP 2otL cat-back. 3.23 LS1 rear (9bolt PBR setup failed and wanted big brakes in back again). And a stock stall. I will eventually drop a T56 in there, but for right now its just easier to drop an Auto in there, I'm already doing a COMPLETE suspension rebuild from teh ground up with lots of tubular parts and poly bushings.
I've heard that the Comp 224/236 has a better idle than the Hot-cam due to its 114LSA.
Not much info on thirdgen.org as the cars didn't come with a LT1. The heads are stock Alum. heads off a F-body, and I will be selling the iron heads as soon as I get the new heads redone. The motor isn't going in the car till the whole thing is regasketed and made to look good.

If the engine you are receiving is stock, don't mod it until after you have it running correctly.
Don't have too many unknowns at one time.
This page was pretty informative. If for nothing else, it makes interesting reading. There is one typo regarding OBDII on 94's though.

Re: Good cam for a bolt-on LT1 swap into a thirdgen?
So easy to throw a cam in when the motor is out. And I'd rather not do a cam swap in the car. I am going to have the motor torn down completely anyways. I'm throwing away all of the current sensors and redoing all of the gaskets.
Basically, the motor has good compression, but I want to make it look good before I put it in.
From what I've read elsewhere the XE 224/230 cam is pretty good, and has a friendly 114 LSA.
