When the rings are seated you can run synthetic. .

But read this post first please.
Let's talk about motor oil, zinc and cams...

so, it doesn't matter what type of cam you have zinc additive or oil that has zinc in it is good for break in, but after break in only flat tappet or solid roller cams can benefit from zinc, but not hydraulic cams. I think that is what I got from the post.

So is synthetic a good move now, or should i just use regualr motor oil?

I would use synthetic, but not like 0-30 or 0-40, like 10-40 or 15-50

What's the big rush to synthetic?, Just break it in letting the rings seat, I wouldn't switch to synthetic til after 2500 miles. After initial start up and runnning for 20 minutes I would change the oil and cut apart your oil filter and take a look to see if there's anything unusual in there like big pieces of metal, Not the usual few tiny ones or glitter.

I think its EASIER to properly seat the rings with dyno oil.

But I dont think synthetic would cuase problems ... Look how many new GM vettes and such roll off the assembly line with M1 in them. They seat just fine.

I personaly would use dyno for the first couple thousand. I just would change it frequently, and get oil analysises done to be on top of things BEFORE you have a problem. Its easier to replace a worn bearing, than fix a rod through the block/pan/etc.

I did 500miles yet on the new engine. So should I change the Mobil1 15-50fullsynthetic and put the Dino oil back?

Check out this site. This is how I broke-in my stroker.
The first few hours of running, the rings are about 80% seated. The last 20% occurs over the first 1000 miles so I'd be running dino oil, no synthetic.

With regards to the zinc additive, that's only for flat tappet cams, not hydraulic rollers. There should be plenty
of assembly lube in a new engine to provide the additional lubrication needed for start-up along with priming the oil pump.

I used Mototuneusa's method when I broke in my new stroker too. I had an oil analysis done after about 1200 miles (www.blackstone-labs.com ) and everything was normal. I used (and continue to use) dino oil Castrol GTX 20W-50 for the breakin. 20W-50 is the oil that my short block builder (Golen) recommended because of how he set up the clearances. The car runs perfect, no smoke, starts instantly, and hauls a$$

So 500 miles is too soon to use full synthetic?

The problem is you ask 10 different people you get different 10 answers. I know what worked for me but to each his own. Just do what you think is best.

Good Luck my friend.

What is the possible damage? Should I change back the oil to Dino or what?

Rings not seating with synthetic is a possibility, Switch back to dino oil for 3k miles then run what you want. GM says these motors aren't fully broke in until 3k miles

I did 50 miles with Mobil1 Full Synthetic yet, and I'm going to change it tomorrow. (paid ~100$ for Mobil1) Will this help the engine or just wasting money to turn back Dino oil ? I'm already burning oil, maybe the rings didn't seat yet.

Re: Going to break in 383 on Sunday

Ehhh, I dont buy the fact that they will cause rings to not seat.

Either did GM, or about 20 other manufacturers ... :

Myth: You should break in your engine with conventional oil, then switch to a synthetic oil like Mobil 1.
Reality:
You can start using Mobil 1® in new vehicles at any time, even in brand new vehicles. In fact, Mobil 1 is original equipment (it is installed at the factory) in:
Aston Martin
Bentley Amage and Bentley GT
Cadillac CTS, CTS-V, XLR, XLR-V, SRX and STS and STS-V
Chevrolet Corvette C6 and Z06
Chevrolet SSR
Chevrolet TrailBlazer SS
Chrysler 300C SRT-8 and Crossfire SRT-6
Cobalt SS
Dodge Ram SRT-10
Dodge Charger SRT-8, Magnum, and Viper
Jeep Cherokee SRT-8
Mercedes-Benz AMG vehicles
Mercedes SLR
Mitsubishi EVO III
Pontiac GTO
All Porsche vehicles
Saturn Red Line
Viper SRT-10

While I do believe some oils are better suited to a break in period, using a synthetic is NOT going to cause the rings to not seat. Idling it for long periods of time, and not getting out there and loading ( To seat them) the rings up, will. Get out there and put a load on the thing to break it in. You already have synthetic in it, so I say stick with it.
