Advantages of cera-metallic coated headers:

-Keeps heat inside the headers, reducing under hood temperatures, burned wires, melted plastic parts and heat soak of the intake track.

-Keeping the heat inside the headers keeps the exhaust gas volume high, increases gas velocity, increasing scavenging, and produces up to 3% HP gains.

-Keeping the heat inside the tubes reduces the external tube metal temperatures..... this reduces corrosion, and stress cracking from vibration and thermal cycling.

-Looks good.

Disadvantages:

-Costs $200.

You decide .

I have mixed emotions on the coatings (Jet hot) I like the way they look up top but underneath the car they look like crap. falking off rusting etc.. etc... if you can keep water from getting on them they will be fine but if you drive in the rain or snow they coating won't last too long. But I am glad they are coated if that means anything.

Your experiences with Jet Hot coatings appears to be all too common these days. Numerous people have reported similar problems with Jet Hot. A correctly applied coating should not rust or flake. I've got a set of AS&M's that came with their HPC coating, and even though I bought them used and they are now about 6 years old, there is no rust of any kind. Also had good luck with a set of JBA's that were coated by Airborn. After 3 years, they still had a nice satin aluminum appearance. Do a "search".... this subject was discussed in the past week, and I posted the same response, including links to photos.

Bottom line on the JetHot coating is that it SUCKS!! I have y-pipe that is coated and it still looks great. The reason...JetHot didn't coat it. The headers, JetHot LTs, have only been on the car for a few months and they started to get surface rust on the bottom after about a week or two. The material they used is not the problem, it's the idiots that prep the part and spray it. I hate JetHot.
To answer your question, yes, coating is great as long as it is done right. If you want to be added to the list of people that think JetHot sucks, let them coat something for you. If you want to get what you're supposed to, send it to HPC or another quality company. A lot of powder coating shops are now doing the high temp coating so that may be another option for you to look into. Good luck.

BTW, for the FEW that haven't had a problem w/ the JH coatings, congrats. Your part was preped and sprayed by someone who actually did it properly. I suspect that the idiot cleaning the part and the idiot that sprayed it got together and had a "good day".
