ohh yeah...they are more likely to break because there are more teeth on the ring gear compared to on a 3.42 gear, so the teeth have to be thinner and closer together, and then the ring gear diameter has to be smaller to match the tooth size of the ring...thus making it all easier to break ...but i have had no problems yet. however im only pulling a 2.1 60'

its strang, from what i have read, the lower your gear number, the quicker your acceleration is. Is the correct? Because if so, wouldnt the 4.10 not be very useful?

the nuemerically higher the ratio, means quicker accel and lower top speed, on a 4.10 gear, the driveshaft is turning 4.1 times for every one revolution of the wheel.

you dont need to worry about top speed, thats what our double overdrive is for ...i wouldnt worry about it considering top speed with 3.42's is acheived in 5th gear, with 4.10's some say it will pull in 6th, i dunno though, havnt tried it. I would assume top speed would still be hindered by aero not gear...around 160mph

well with a six speed a lot more people do run 4.10's, dont see too many in A4 cars though... and gas milage is decreased a little becasue of higher rpms, but i still get over 24mpg with my 4.10's, so im happy. some people dont like having to shift so frequently, and in a turbo car lower gears are sometimes better because it keeps the turbo in its boost range longer. It really all depends on your setup, i am going NA, dont mind shifting so often, so 4.10's are good for me

I've always heard of people breaking 4.10s, so I'd say that wouldn't be a good idea. I think a T/A cover might help keep it together, but beyond that, its kind of a lost cause. Its wierd tho, some guys have their car break on a stock motor, others can get 1.6s out of it on a six speed. Good luck with it. Let us know what kind of power you make too!
I got 1.7s out of my stocker, and its still running strong.....
