Fuse 6 blowing (possibilities on problem)
Fuse 6 blowing (possibilities on problem)
Recently I had my Reverse Lockout go and figured it was the Solenoid. Then during slow traffic my car overheated. Checked and it was the Fuse that runs the fans, reverse lockout, etc. (fuse 6).
We put in a 25 amp fuse and for the moment it works fine (fans are going on 100%, and my reverse lockout works properly).
Any ideas what could be drawing the more then required 10amps, ... and since it's not blowing the 25 it's probably not a dead short.

Re: Fuse 6 blowing (possibilities on problem)
May want to check the load that the fans are pulling. I had a problem with the inline fuse blowing on my electric water pump and finally found that it had a bad bearing and would get so hot that the load would blow the fuse. Just a thought
Re: Fuse 6 blowing (possibilities on problem)
***UPDATE***: I've ruled it out being the fans. I waited until the car cooled down to a temperature where the fans wouldn't go on right away (with the 25 amp in to make sure).
Then swapped in the 10 amp, and turned on the car and the fuse blew immediately.
What could be drawing more then it's required power on start-up to blow the 10 amp but NOT the 25 amp?? ... i'm thinking the Reverse Lockout Solenoid .. any ideas?

Re: Fuse 6 blowing (possibilities on problem)
What year is your car? That might help people answer, since the wiring is not necessarily the same for all years of the LT1. A "signature" with the basic info like year, trans and any major mods helps people give you the correct answer.

Putting in bigger fuses is a way bad idea.
The fuse is there to protect your wiring. You could end up with burned up wiring by going to that bigger fuse and then have a real expensive problem.

sorry, my signature now has my mods and car info.
and yeah, definitely found out from others as well as you guys the 25 amp fuse was a BAD idea, luckily I didn't drive too far with it in.
Any suggestions ?

I had a similar problem and it ended up being my reverse lock out solenoid. If I would put my car in reverse for an extended period of time.....like 20 seconds my fuse for my blinkers would blow. The new solenoid fixed it.
