Fuel Pump (in-tank) - Rubber hose is melted??
Fuel Pump (in-tank) - Rubber hose is melted??
The rubber hoses on the in-tank fuel pump in my 94 Z, have basically mealted. The braided skeleton inside the two small rubber hoses is showing thru and the rubber is melted. The car has been sitting for a year and a half. The gas was dark brown.
I now need a 3/8 hose that has a 90 degree elbow formed, to replace it. I cant seem to find one. GM dealership doesnt have them and neither do the autoparts store. I have some new 3/8 fuel hose but I dont know how to form a 90 degree angle without kinking it... Any thoughts?
Was this caused by ethanol?

Re: Fuel Pump (in-tank) - Rubber hose is melted??
Often time spending 10% more gets you a LOT better product.
Racetronix sells their kits with stocklike teflon corrugated tube because regular black fuel line is NOT rated for submersion.
You "saved" a buck getting your fuel pump elsewhere and got a cheaper kit with the black hose, likely the same pump but that doesn't help you.......................
I don't know where to buy the teflon bendy hose but it is what you need. You put rubber back in there this will happen again in time. You are not the first nor will you be the last.

Ahh... well that makes since. I seen on the Racetronix website where the kits did include the teflon hose instead of rubber. Guess ill start looking. Thanks
Go to any GOOD auto parts store and buy a foot of fuel line hose rated to meet or exceed SAE 30R10, for example like this hose made by Gates Rubber:
Submersible Fuel Line Hose - Hose - Products | Gates Corporation
The SAE 30R10 rated hoses are designed for total fuel immersion in fuel injected (i.e. working pressures up to 100 psi), applications.
To get the 90 degree bend without buying a true "molded" hose, just use a longer replacement length hose and "loop" the hose 270 degrees back around to get your 90 degree bend requirement. Got it?
