Is this fuel pump for sure? (tests done)
Is this fuel pump for sure? (tests done)
I ran low on gas and did some high revving to get out of some snow. the car didnt want to rev past 1 grand for about a minute then it died. I started it a few times with the same results and finally it didn't turn on at all. I added some gas with same results ( i dont believe i ran it below a gallon though).
I am getting spark and electrical system seems good (new batt, starter turns engine over)
I am not getting any fuel pressure when i prime the car even after multiple tries. (key in run)
I have checked the rails and i am getting nothing. I pulled the relay, dont know how to test it but when i apply 12v to my fuel pump prime and the relay is in, it takes the voltage. If the relay is disconnected, there is no electricity flow; thus iwould assume it works.
So no fuel pressure, even when primed. I have about 3 gallons in the tank.

Mine did this a while back and I ignorantly replaced the pump (due to the usual complaints of failure I figured it happened to me) to find out the pump wasn't he problem.
Did you test the pump under the hood? There's a wire (it's got a pic on Shoebox's site) that you can apply 12 volts to and see if you can hear it run in the tank.
Did you try to wiggle the wires on the relay? This was my problem, the vibrations over the years made the connectors hold a weak connection and I lost power. Pull the wires out of the harness and make sure they are getting good contact. I had to push mine out so the relay plugged in correctly.
These probably won't solve your, because it sounds like you burnt it up, but anything helps. At least you can eliminate some possibilities.
I'd also like to know how to test the relay if anyone else knows.

Mine did this a week or so ago cause I ran it low on gas, drove to the gas station put gas in and when I tried to start it it wouldn't start, I thought it might be the fuel pump but when I let it sit a while it cranked up enough to drive to the house, I replaced the fuel filter and it's been fine since. So maybe it's just a filter that got clogged up with sediment from the bottom of your tank as you ran it low on gas.
