Fuel pump problems

My car wouln't start but it cranks over. The engine is not getting any gas because fuel pump is not turning on. I checked the fuel pump relay and fuse, they are good. I don't think the fuel pump is bad becuse the car starts right up when i apply 12 volts directly to the fuel pump. Anybody ever have problems similar to this? Could something possibly be wrong with the ecm?

Re: Fuel pump problems

Since the car cranks and you didn't mention the security light, it's not the theft deterrent module. Not that we doubt you but, how do you know the relay is good? For example just hearing it click don't do it. You have to energize the coil and check the contacts for continuity. Of course in the plug you can check for voltages. If as you say, when you put voltage to the prime connector the pump works, then if the relay were working, the pump would then work also.

Have you tried starting it with voltage on the prime connector? Have you tried squirting fuel in the intake to see what happens when you crank it? How do you know it's not getting fuel?

Maybe time to do some continuity testing of wires.
