Fuel pump not turning on!
Does anyone know what to do if the fuel pump is not turning on?? It is on my 94 Z that I hadn't fired up and still can't since around November 2002. Where should I check for the problem---the relay seems to be clicking--I can hear it---but the pump does not humm at all!!! Please help me figure this one out.

Hi,
I am going through the same thing right now. And oddly enough, mines a 94 Z28 as well. I had this problem about 1 1/2 years ago, and it ended up being the relay, only a $70 fix. It's doing similar things now. It would be running fine, then just die, and not restart until I shook the car. Now, I can't get it to do anything, no matter how much I shake the car, jump on it, etc... I cannot find a fuel pump relay in the box under the dash, so I can't tell if it's clicking or not. The relay that was replaced, I was told, was near the rear of the car somewhere.
I have some questions also, but will ask in a new thread if they're not answered here...
Where is the Fuel Pump Relay?
Are there really 2 fuel filters in the fuel system, and if so, where are they?
What is the easiest way to tell for sure if the fuel pump is bad?, which wire on the fuel pump connector do I test for power, etc..?
Also, to atlasengr,
Just because a relay clicks doesen't necessarily mean it's good. My ABS Relay clicks every time, but I only hear the mechanism initialize once every about 10 times...basically I drive around with no ABS 95% of the time, and the ABS INOP light on when it doesen't initialize. Also, there are 2 fuses for the fuel pump on my 94, both in the relay box under the hood. Look at the fuse code inside the top of the box.
Thanks,
-David-

I have seen on this board in the past that the relay is said to be under the left foot rest/dead pedal. I have never had a pump issue yet so I can't explain how to replace it. I'm sure someone else here will explain further.
fuel pump relay>>>
It is next to your left foot, in the plasic panel next to the brake pedal. As for the fuses, I checked the box on the left side and under the box for the descriptions and don't see any fuel pump fuses. Are they labeled differently?? Curently I can't shake the car cause I have it 18" off the ground on jack stands---you can imagine what would happen. Like I said, I haven't lit her up since November and now that I want to , I can't.---Are you sure on the fuses???????????????
Atlasengr,
Thanks for the update on the relay. Yes I am sure about the fuses. I believe they are the two 7.5amp fuses right above each other on the bottom left side of the relay box with the screw off top, in the drivers side of the engine compartment.
My relay box has a key on the underside showing what each fuse/relay goes to and their location in the panel.
I will verify their location when i go out to look for the relay and make sure.
Thanks,
-David-

Hi,
I am sorry, I just checked, and those fuses say injector on the key. They may or may not go to the injectors though, since they should get their signal directly from the computer. If those fuses are good, I would check any other fuses that have anything to do with the engine or the fuel system.
Your relay could still ultimately be the problem though. If it's not too expensive I would try replacing it, especially if it's never been replaced before. It's one less thing you'll eventually have to replace anyway. If it has the same model number as the relays under the hood, you may want to test one in place of the fuel pump relay to rule that out as the problem. Just don't use either of the cooling fan relays to test or you'll end up paying for it
Sorry about the mistake, but I really did think those fuses were for the fuel pump.
Thanks,
-David-

Fuel pump power comes from the PCM IGN (fuse 5) in the I/P fuse panel (easy as looking in the owner's manual
). Activation of the relay is controlled by the pcm.
If you want to prove that your relay is working, remove the connector under the back of the car that goes to the fuel pump. It's on the LH side in the area of the fuel filter. The terminal with the grey wire is the power to the pump. Check it with a meter or test light as the key is first turned on. The pcm only signals the relay on for 2 seconds before the engine is started, so it will come on, then go off.

atlasengr,
Got my car running again. Thanks again for telling me the relays location. Turns out, it wasnt the relay itself, but the fact that the idiots at Firestone/Formula 1 didnt mount the relay to its clip, they just left it hanging. So, over time, the weight pulling on the connector partially pulled one wire partially out. I slid it back in, and mounted the relay properly, and now it's like I never had a problem.
Just thought I'd let you know.
Thanks,
