Fuel pump install

I am installing my racetronix fuel pump on my 94 LT1. What are some of the troubles you all ran into. Should I install pump from above or below. My car sat for over a year and I need to know what i should do to prepare it for install. The car has aleast 2 gallons on it, is there s drain plug etc. I did get a new fuel filter.

Any help or links to help the install would be nice.

Thanks Mark Tisdale

Re: Fuel pump install

The easiest method is to cut a trap door in the sheet metal above the fuel tank (behind the rear seats). Do a search and I'm sure you will find a lot of information.

Remove and flush the tank. You are asking for potential trouble if you do not.

Removing the fuel tank is a big job in a 4th gen. You have to drop the rear end and exhaust before you can get the tank out. But like racetronix said, you are asking for potential problems if you do not flush your tank, plus cutting your floor is the hack way to do it IMO

LMAO well done! Mine is not as pretty but looks very clean as well.

I have never heard of any problems with this method. However, if your old pump failed because it got clogged, then I would recommend dropping the tank. Me, I now have a very thirsty 383, and my old pump was working flawlessly.

Re: Fuel pump install

Do a search. I have seen a few write ups on removing the tank. One thing you want to do when you take the sending unit out BE VERRY CAREFULL the float part of the sending unit is fragile if you bang it around tring to get it in and out it might cause your fuel gauge to read at wayyyyy past full no matter how much gas you have in it. ASK ME HOW I KNOW Oh well I just top her off twice a week now (untill I get a new sending unit)
