Fuel Pump bad?
The way I see it, as long as it's done right (IE: not fiberglassed over, but a metal panel installed over it) then it's the only way to do it. I'd much rather cut a hole in my car than drop the tank, remove and replace the pump, reinstall everything, then go to start the car and find that something wasn't done right and I gotta drop the tank again. Not to mention, once you put the carpet back in place you'll never even know the hole was there.

Each time I've done it we used a rust-stopper paint - POR15 or Rustoleum - to ensure that it doesn't get any rust. But again, to each their own.

My car sat in storage for several years, during which time the fuel pump seized up. We replaced the pump when we got it out of a storage a few years ago. The new pump apparently took a dump sometime this year. My car is still on jackstands, and we've been starting it and letting it run every few weeks. The last time we tried to start it, the fuel pump didn't prime. I think I'm going to install the racetronic kit the next time around.
I can understand if it was structural but there's no degradation to the structural integrity of the vehicle by doing the trap door. At that, most of the time people are adding more rigidity to the trap door location with the metal plates they put over it.
And +1 for the racetronix kit, installed it on my car and I love it. My dad's doing a walbro 340 that mcssmostwanted found for sale on here.

Lmao yeah you're right - I've got 30# injectors. Fixed the post. Makes sense why I was typing and having a hard time remembering what stock injectors were when I had just typed it and it was staring me in the face.
But yep, once that 340 gets here it'll be slapped back in. The v6 pump is just to get him by for a little 50-person car show/picnic we're having this weekend
