Fuel pump?

1993 Z with original fuel pump. The car has been driving okay with intermittnet low idle at times when starting up. I would shut it off then start it back up and this would cure the problem. Also, sometimes when hitting it hard some hestiation every now and then was apparent. Went to start her this morning, she was bucking bad and ready to cut off when giving her part throttle. I babbied her to the gas station with very light throttle on and off to get her there. I put 10 gallons in and nothing changed. I think it's the fuel pump but wanted to get a second opionion before I dropped the tank to swap it out.

Re: Fuel pump?

before you start throwing parts at "her" check them first. Get a fuel pressure gauge and check to see if the pump is weak. It could also be the fuel filter, which is of course ALOT cheaper and easier to fix. Don't guess it that will only cost you more.

Re: Fuel pump?

Change your fuel filter and see if that helps. That can cause the same problems.

Re: Fuel pump?

Just to throw it out there.. you can also change your fuel pump without dropping th tank by cutting a small access hole. Do a search for it and im sure you will find good info on it. I have heard its a lot easier to do the fuel pump that way if that ends up being your problem...

Re: Fuel pump?

yeah....that is what i did. I cut a hole and changed mine. Way easier. About your problem, i would say change your filter. It probably needs to be done anyway and it might be the fix to the problem. Fuel pumps are not cheap.
