The flex hose offered by APE does not have the proper inner diameter at either end. The pump end will be difficult to push on and the outlet / push-lock end will not fit due to the large difference in required inner diameter. The Racetronix flex tube has the proper inner diameter to properly fit at both ends.
The Racetronix pump has the flex hose already fitted onto a modified outlet and secured with a stainless steel compression spring clamp. Using a plastic flex tube on a Walbro pump with a standard gear clamp and outlet stands a good chance of popping off in the tank due to its poor frictional and clamping / holding force. Many people have had bad experience with the hose and outlet nipple coming off with non-Racetronix systems.
The custom filter sock provided with the Racetronix kit is the proper ‘T’ configuration. The filter sock provided with the APE kit is a generic ‘L’ configuration as used in the older ‘F’, ‘Y’ and ‘G’ body GM cars.
The Racetronix kit is supplied with new upgraded 14 gauge Teflon wire with crimped and soldered terminals. The Racetronix harness replaces the aged factory 16 gauge pump harness which in most cases has corroded terminals and in sometimes burnt connectors at the pump. The Racetronix harness goes directly into the Walbro pump and has GM connector at the other end. The APE kit has an in-line adapter which requires the use of the old problematic factory wiring and connectors. The inline adapter uses 16 gauge plastic coated wire and crimped not soldered terminals. This just adds more resistance to the equation and another potential failure point.
The Racetronix kit comes with the proper adhesive to re-seal the fill bucket and silicone lube to ease in the installation of the pump’s o-ring seal.
The Racetronix kit comes with a one year in-house warranty. (subject to terms and conditions). Walbro has dropped their warranty program on all high-performance pumps.
Yes the removal and replacing of the fuel pump isn't the funnest. I don't know how to remove the tank from below. I think you have to drop the rear end. My friend just very carefully cut from above to gain access. My friend had done his a few months before mine, so we knew exactly where to cut. I am sure someone here has dimensions etc. Too lazy right now to go look. Once you have access. You can remove the fuel lines and pull the pump. Sounds like the racetronix is a pretty good solution. I have the walbo 255 in mine. I just usd a gas friendly epoxy to seal mine into the plastic piece the original pump came out of. After replacing everything, I just took some shet metal ad riveted it where the cutout was. Not exactly good directions, but it gives you an idea about what tasks are at hand.
I would't recomment replacing it with another stock capacity pump. More then likely you won't be replacing another one, but why not upgrade to a higher volume pump. It isn't going to hurt anything to have more volume. It just means if you need it, there won't be any shortage.

So, is it better to get the complete kit with the wiring harness or just the fuel pump kit from Racetronix? It looks like the harness ends up costing about $80.
What about the grantelli pump from Summit for $125? I'm assuming you can't just unplug the factory and plug in the grantelli? So some splicing would be needed?

The GMS kit is the same as all the other re-boxed Walbro pumps.
The Racetronix system is unique being application specific.
You pay for what you get.

I got my racetronix pump kit w/ harness from thunder last week and its a really nice piece. I'll be putting mine in this weekend. I opted for the harness, because in a year or so a new motor and a turbo or sc will be going in.

So what is the benefit of the harness, other than running it to the alternator? If I don't buy the harness is there a lot of splicing involved? I need to replace my pump and the racetronix pump is the way I want to go but just need to figure out if I really need the harness..

Splicing? Where? Please review our post and our ad again carefully so you know what you are getting.
