Fuel Pressure WAY too high!
I was told when I bought mine a few years ago, they used to look like this:

These were the ones that supposedly had the problem with new fuel on the diphragm. To fix the problem they changed to this style:

However these didn't fit the rails real well and they needed hardware to secure it properly that like mine didn't come in the box with the unit. Blah blah blah.
However what this guy said makes more sense:
Purely because a diaphragm should not move that quickly. You would expect a gradual rise in pressure. Particularly if the vacuum level was not changing. AlSO, If your pressure were changing that much while it was running, the engine would most certainly die from running way too rich. Especially if the pressure were actually changing that fast. Since you didn't mention it dieing, we have to assume it is not and therefore CJMATT is probably correct.
