fuel pressure question

im still trying to find out my low fuel pressure issues and was wondering if there is a way to check it at the pump to see if im dropping from the pump to the fuel rail(blockage or something). i got a racetronix 255 and hotwire kit, new fuel rail, new stock regulator, and new fuel filter. i have a part store strainer on it cause racetronix didnt send the sock with my pump for some reason. just putting everything on the table to try and get this figured out. cant get the car running good cause of the lean condition. im seeing 40 and under psi. with vacuum off it barely gets 43

Due to the long relatively narrow line, the filter, and various elbows/fittings there will always be some pressure drop, somewhere along the line of 7-9psi (rough estimate using my pressure drop calculator). What this means is that if you checked the fuel pressure directly off of the pump it would be much higher than what you see at the fuel rail not just for the pressure drop but also that you would be reading it AFTER the fuel pressure regulator.

Short version - it won't tell you anything because the results you get at the regulator are far more important.

Even more insightful is that your fuel pressure readings are NOT an immediate cause for concern. You may want to consider changing the fuel filter if it hasn't been changed in awhile, though.

Re: fuel pressure question

Did Solomon set your tune based upon your current fuel pressure. I know alot of the same setups are more like 49 psi with line off(mine is 50). He guestinated my base tune at being 49 as I still had motor out of car. Was the pressure higher or is this what it has been since you replaced everything. Might be worth contacting racetronix about it as im guessing you could check the wiring as im thinking much of the increase over stock is in the boost of electrical power at the pump.

Re: fuel pressure question

His fuel pressure is not low enough to cause any problems. Once you get to 30 and below THEN you'll need to worry, but 40psi is just fine.

The OP has already posted his problem in this thread: https://www.camaroz28.com/forums/lt1...issues-870726/ and is certain that his fuel pressure is low but I can tell you that is not the case. Maybe he'll get that this time around, maybe not.

I suggest he picks up where Fred left off with "Just figure out how to post your data log on an FTP site, and there are several people here who can help you out."

Re: fuel pressure question

I didnt think the pressure was a problem as long as its consistant and wasn't higher previously(as 43 is what the regulator is set at). I do see it could be an issue if the tune was set for a higher pressure(but I really dont know how many psi it would take to be an issue). It is obvious he wants to test something so I figured being sure the hotwire side of things is getting the voltage to the pump might be worth looking at. I imagine he is looking for some peace of mind.

Re: fuel pressure question

Just read the other thread and would second Freds advice on checking the vacuum line to fpr(and other vacuum lines and sources of unmetered air leaks). I dont know that they would be why you are lacking in power or lean. Have you checked plugs to confirm it is lean? Have you talked with your tuner about it and what does he say. As far as posting to ftp site I had a tough time figuring out how to do that and a friend recomended using google docs and that worked for me. I think it was actually google drive. Im sure its dissapointing the lack of power and the fear of damage.

Re: fuel pressure question

Fuel pressure has very little to do with how the engine runs. The PCM will be able to compensate for minor changes in fuel pressure, be it 38psi or 45psi, it can make the corrections.

Some peace of mind would come from scanning the car. There's a reason no one probes fuel pressure at the tank - it's essentially worthless.
