Fuel leaking from transmission (flywheel area)
Fuel leaking from transmission (flywheel area)
There's a steady leak of fuel coming from the flywheel area around where the transmission hooks up to the engine. I checked the oil and it had the smell of gas in it. I don't want to start it in case it sparks and catches fire. Any ideas what this might be and how to fix it??
Re: Fuel leaking from transmission (flywheel area)
Your fuel lines connect to the fuel rails at the rear driver's side of the intake manifold, so it's possible you got a bad o-ring on one of the connections - supply line probably, or maybe return line. Another possibility might be a leaky fuel regulator, which is also right there in the same spot.
If you're getting gas in your engine oil, then I would suspect leaky injector(s).

Re: Fuel leaking from transmission (flywheel area)
Thanks. I checked the fuel lines behind the intake manifold and they arent leaking on the driver side but there is a line behind the intake manifold on the passenger side that is leaking gas what is this line? i felt around it and there is no cracks is there a gasket on it? its right behind the valve cover on the previously mentioned side right above the tranny bellhousing.
Re: Fuel leaking from transmission (flywheel area)
a hard metal line? not the tube from the intake to the manifold? and your not talking about the water tube from head to head are u?
if there is indeed fuel leaking its coming from the back of the rail or maybe a puncture in a fuel line? hows the fpr? is it leaking and just running down the back of the motor?

Yes hard metal line. No not the tube from intake to manifold and not the water tube.Fpr not leaking. Any idea what line this is? And i felt around the line no cracks it has a bolt onto the back of the engine around the valve cover area and that is where its leaking from.

Take a look at Shoebox's pics and see what looks familiar:

Pull the vacuum line off the fuel pressure regulator and see if it has wet fuel in it.

Re: Fuel leaking from transmission (flywheel area)
felt like it was leaking from the metal pipe in front of the exhaust gas feed line shown on http://shbox.com/1/egr1.jpg

Where are you searching for fuel, from under the car?
Why don't you pressurize the fuel system with the fuel pump prime connector and look in the back area you mentioned with a mirror.
More than likely it's the fuel or return line line leaking and running down the back of the intake.
It also would not be a bad idea to check to be sure the schrader valve is tight on the fuel rail.
Use a fuel pressure gauge to see if the FP is up to par if you still can't find the leak.
