found unplugged connector

on my 95 z28 i found an unplugged wiring harness connector. It had three wires going into it and a white back and a purple plug. it kinda looked like the MAF sensor connector but... purple on the plug.

Well i looked everywhere for a place to put it and i found it to be right under the water pump. There is a connector there that looks like this:
http://img18.exs.cx/img18/9728/connector5ln.jpg
that goes to another wire that goes somewhere. On shoebox's diagram i think it goes to the optispark distributer. But if it did and it was unplugged wouldnt that mean it wouldnt run at all or just like crap?

So Could someone just tell me if i got this right? after driving it, it could have gained more throttle response, but that could be the weather or just my imagination?

Thanks for anything.

Edit: was looking at it again, and the optispark connector is in a different spot i think, so i guess it cant be that

Re: found unplugged connector

Is this the original stock harness? Is your AIR pump unplugged?

Re: found unplugged connector

The pic you provide "sqinting" it does look like the opti connector but the connector for the extension down to the opti, not the opti plug itself.

My MAF is 3 wire and does have a purple rubber seal aroung plug. Yours is plugged right? Wire is short barely makes it to the MAF.

Sorry w/o a bigger pic I really cant tell. If you can get a pic of it(your plug) BIGGER I might be able to help. I have all my wires/plugs labeled at the moment because I took the motor out for rebuild.

Reminds me of the time I found the crank position sensor unplugged on my car and could not find the plug anywhere . Turned out the guy before me went to a vented opti and 96+ timing cover that has a crank position sensor place on it.Thats when I found out my 94 OBD1 does not use a CPS thats why its gone.

Re: found unplugged connector

the picture i provided is from a picture of the wiring harness that i found on shoebox's site(sorry...).

everything is original as far as i know, and all the wires look to be as old as the car so i guess so...

I know that it is not the maf plug, that is plugged in. The plug im talking about is on the drivers side and is... well the place i found to plug it in connects to another wire right under the water pump.

sorry, its dark so i cant get a picture right now, tommorow if needed i will post a pic of it.

thanks.

I'll bet this is it,Shoebox is the master. The AIR pump plug is almost identical to the MAF plug (just looked). And the purple rubber seal to boot. The wire for it (at least on my car) comes from the harness attached to and running along the the leftside frame rail under the ABS unit.

Re: found unplugged connector

if that was it, which it sounds like it is, what would it do if it is unplugged?

edit: was just looking and apparently it is actually plugged under the air pump... I saw two hoses, and it looked like it was belt driven so i figured it was water pump, sorry for that.

Re: found unplugged connector

Good one,I think its givin the AIR pump would not operate. If it where unplugged you might not even realize it though .You dont get a SES when it is unplugged for OBD1.You cant tell at all. Other than you should be able to hear the pump running at start up and dont hear it.Light humm of sorts that stops minutes after startup.
