Found my problem!

Okay I finally found my problem....

Welp congrats to Nick Steel once again for the correct diagnosis. I spent the evening yanking the driver's side head and discovered scuff marks only on the exhaust side of the piston tops.

I didn't check the piston to valve clearance with this cam so when I went with 1/2 turn past zero lash...I had WAAAAAAY too much lift on the exuast valves and that pretty much smacked them. I haven't pulled the valves off the heads to see if they are bent. This would more than likely explain the low compression I was getting.

Im going to yank the passenger side head and check the PTV clearance for the new heads to make sure that this doesn't happen again. I also discovered that the header gaskets on my jet hot long tubes were TOAST! I believe the bolts backed off a bit and fried the gaskets. DOH!!

Also does anyone know what the life of the ignition coil is? The car has 91K on the clock.

Re: Found my problem!

Glad to hear your problem is found...

If it's a 93-95, I'd replace the coil. The 96-97 ones were alot better. But, as always, I would just test it before replacing it.
