fluid out the top of the dipstick?

All,

I've been driving my 85 Volvo 745 conversion for about a month. ('96 LT1 w/ 4L60E) Today, I noticed that it looked like fluid had come out of the top of the tranny dipstick. (dripping onto my exhaust manifold)

Anybody ever seen anything like this before?

Thanks!
-simon

PS, here are some picts of the car in progress:

Sorry, I wasn't very clear the first post.

It looked like I had tranny fluid dripping out of the transmission dipstick. There was fluid the first 1" down the dipstick, then fluid on some of my hoses on top of the valve cover, directly below the top of my tranny dipstick. (yes, near the PVC) The fluid running down the back of the cover and dripping on the back of the exhaust manifold.

The PVC valve is new, as is the gromit that goes into the valve cover. There wasn't any fluid near the valve or the grommit.

thanks for any thoughts.

There is fluid on the outside of the dipstick for ~1".

The transmission fluid was at the correct level.

thanks,
simon

Well.. Have we determined it to be tranny fluid? or motor oiL? Then that could give us some more insight on where to look..

It is transmission fluid, coming out of the top of the transmission dipstick.

That's 1 VERY cool Swede-mobile. Sounds like there's too much trans fluid in if it's comming out the top of the tube.

Thanks. It's been a LONG project, interupted by the birth of two sons.

Perhaps it was just overfilled. I seem to have a really hard time reading the 4L60E tranny dipstick. There is a great deal of fluid "smear" up the stick and I can't tell if it is just rubbing the inside of the filler tube or if there is actually fluid up the tube. Any thoughts on how to read it better?

thanks,
simoin
