firebird trouble

My car won't turn over when i'm trying to start it...
it'll make the usual "noise" when i turn the key, and then it'll cut out for a second, then go back to the usual noise when starting the car..but it won't start!!!
I know this is not the best description..but does anyone have a clue on what the problem could be???

Have you checked the obvious things like the battery and connections? Make sure your battery is reading 12+ volts on a volt meter (or pull it and take somewhere to have it checked). Also make sure you battery leads and screwed in good and don't have any corrosion on them.

The battery is brand new...and all of the connections seem fine..doesn't have any corrosion either...
A couple of days ago...i was getting a code 16..and i was told that it has to do with the opti-spark...low resolution...
But, i'm not even getting any codes now...
Do you think it's completely out now??
Is that a symptom of an opti-spark gone bad????

You can hear the starter motor run as usual for a second or two, and then it quits for a second or two, then sounds like normal again? Are there any clicking sounds?

Depending on how many times you've tried to start in unsuccessfully, your battery may now be to weak to start the car. A dying opti will ofter cause the car to be harder to start, but I've never let one go long to find out if it would actually prevent the car from starting completely, but I imagine it could be the problem. Sorry I can't be more help.

Exactly!!
But there aren't any clicking sounds..(that would be a dead battery right?)

Sounds like one of three things:

1. Bad battery, despite being new.
2. Bad connections/cables.
3. Bad starter/solenoid.

Recheck all cable connections. Take battery to Autozone or someplace and have tested. If this doesn't work, move on to the starter.

Of course I've been wrong before.
