Distributor ruin cause of oil help!!

hey its been a while since i've been here...
and i have always appreciated all the help i get.

recently i've been debating on getting rid off my z28 or not!
94 z28 A4 98k miles
i practically changed everything....this a money greedy car.

ok here is why i'm debating on getting rid of it or not

the car had a misfire ...caused by a bad distributor....
even though i changed it a year ago.
it got ruin cause of an oil got in it....oil leek coming from the timechain cover.

now this sounds like a big job....and a lot of money.

i just need some help of an idea what could be wrong with the car now...an estimate...and how bad is it!

after having new tranny, gas in the cylinders, and now this....
is it worth it fixing it ....or Not!!

thank you

Just replace the timing cover gasket. You're going to have to regardless. Nobody is going to buy a sputtering car. Sorry about your luck though man.

timing cover gasket...if thats it...i'll get it fixed and keep the car.
the car runs perfect right now...very strong.

(not my regular mechanic) told me something about dismantelling the front part of the engine to check....and that he didn't want to deal with that.... he scared the heck ouf of me.

thanks

I bet its not the gasket around the timing cover but the seal for the opti spark dowel pin in the timing cover. I replaced my seal two years ago after a cam install. It did not leak before but after the new seal it did. i found out 3 opti's later that it is not the actual seal that leaks but the lining around the seal that goes into timing cover. One must use rtv sealent around the seal and then press it into the timing cover to prevent any oil leaks. I bet you did the same thing. not use a sealent on the new seal. it is uncommon for the gasket to leak around the timing cover but very common for people to not use sealent on that stupid seal. do a search on it you will find a few posts about that seal leaking oil.

hey thanks...
i wish i knew more....i don't really work on the car personally...i wish i could.
the car is pracptically stock...few bolt-ons...most likely it'll stay that way....yeah i know its a shame.....
but i'll def look into oil leaking from the seal..
i'm starting to feel better that it might not be something serious.

thanks for all the help
