Few questions about my 97 WS6 Firebird.

Re: Few questions about my 97 WS6 Firebird.
There seem to be less and less folks tuning LT1's so if you can find one local that's a good deal.
One of the first things I did was buy a skip shift eliminator. I didn't read up on it to find out a resistor is all that's needed. Oh well. It was $25 and easy to install.
We're lucky in Texas, I suppose. Highest speed limit around here is 85mph on the 130 toll road. IH35 is 70 once you get outside of Austin (where I live) and IH10 west of San Antonio eventually gets to 80. We like higher speed limits. I'm routinely in 6th gear when above 60 or so. Hwy 95 (which is 3/4 mile away from me is 65, I take that into town regularly and get into 6th gear every time.
I would say getting new gears sounds like the better option for you and if you can afford a new rear end too that would be good if you plan to race it. As for me I'm older (45) and am pretty much through with all that speed stuff so don't feel the need to upgrade to stronger components as my driving habits shouldn't break what the car has.
Sorry your EGR and AIR are giving you fits. Mine still works even after 140,000 miles. Lots of folks just remove them then get the PCM tuned to have them taken out of the computer - as mentioned earlier. Removing them shouldn't effect fuel economy.

Re: Few questions about my 97 WS6 Firebird.
mine has 213,XXX miles on it. so i am expecting to have to deal with things like this. its all just part of having an older car.
the previous owner just replaced a bunch of stuff pertaining to the EGR. i was hoping it wouldn't give me any issues for a wile. not surprised that the air pump is taking a dump....
just seams like a waste of time to fix a system that i dont need if i can just take it off.
i am actually originally from Austin myself. i remember those roads. Long and straight if you head west. if i still lived down there i would probably love these 3.42's.
