I know my 93 had manifold gaskets though...
Thanks for the replies though - you guys are the best. I love you.

when bolted together, they sealed fine... until you unbolt them... after you unbolt them theres a chance they cant seal, so you sometimes need a gasket, sometimes you're lucky.
LT1s and most alum headed motors need gaskets because of the diffrent expansion rates of the metal.
btw, thanks WS Sick, i was already late to runn out the door at work lastnight when i loaded this thread, and didnt have time for a better post..

I stopped using gaskets... I decided to use RTV... much cheaper than buying gasket for everything.seemed to work well on my Heads install.. Cant wait to start it up and see what it runs like. Im sure it'll have a bit more compression with use the RTV instead of the head gasket.

As for the gasketless exh manifold on the 3rd gens... very interesting. I can actually belive it as I can see where GM would try to save a few $$$ that way. It can definately work, but the machine work has to be outstanding...
I've worked on marine diesels in the past that used no head gaskets, but these were some pieces with serious flat milling and low RA's.

omg.. if u used an RTV instead of a head gasket u will be very sorry soon. the rtv won't hold under pressure even the high temp. one. if i ware u i'd buy a head gasket and istall them before u start the car.

But yeah I'd at least J B weld the heads on over RTV.

he snapped off one of the ears on the exhaust manifold.
agienst my advice, he JBwelded the ear back on. bolted it on.
and as the car warmed up i got to watch JB weld smoke, then kinda ooze off.. like molasses. made a real mess.
he ended up buying a header because it was cheaper... (feels funny to say header instead of headers)
