Felpro 1406 header gaskets - use RTV or go on dry?
I'm going to do a header install this week. I've gone "both ways" on this one without a problem, but what is the right way to do it? Should the 1406's go on dry?
Thanks,
Greg

Since when did manifolds not use gaskets?
If the stock manifolds didn't use gaskets you'd have a leak from hell. All manifolds have gasktes.
As for the RTV, you won't need it. I've never used it on my street cars or my racecars and have never had a problem with leaks.

And for the record, stock manifolds do have gaskets, they're triple-ply stainless steel gaskets.

not all SBCs......
and yea, i consider the LT1 to be a mildly revised SBC.
I smeared a thin layer of high temp orange RTV on my header gaskets. They are fel pro like you are about to use, and never leaked. I've never put a header gasket on without the RTV, so I don't have any comparison.
I stopped using gaskets... I decided to use RTV... much cheaper than buying gasket for everything.seemed to work well on my Heads install.. Cant wait to start it up and see what it runs like. Im sure it'll have a bit more compression with use the RTV instead of the head gasket.
Ive added headers on no less than 6 thirdgen TPI motors, each one did not have any ex manifold gaskets or metal shims, now both my LT1s (93, 97) have had em.
I put the felpros on dry.
