Felpro 1406 header gaskets - use RTV or go on dry?

I'm going to do a header install this week. I've gone "both ways" on this one without a problem, but what is the right way to do it? Should the 1406's go on dry?

Thanks,
Greg

Never used RTV on header gaskets or known anyone that has. My 1406's are dry and sealed very nicely. No leaks and havent friend them in half like my old gaskets that came with my JH LT's.

Since when did manifolds not use gaskets? If the stock manifolds didn't use gaskets you'd have a leak from hell. All manifolds have gasktes.

As for the RTV, you won't need it. I've never used it on my street cars or my racecars and have never had a problem with leaks.

The only way my headers would not leak was to put the spray on ultra copper on the 1406s.

Dry...had mine in there for 4 months and no problems at all.

And for the record, stock manifolds do have gaskets, they're triple-ply stainless steel gaskets.

When did Gen 1 SBC's come into this? lol

We're talking LT1's...hence "LT1 Engine Tech".

Which SBC didn't use some type of gasket material on the exh manifold?

I smeared a thin layer of high temp orange RTV on my header gaskets. They are fel pro like you are about to use, and never leaked. I've never put a header gasket on without the RTV, so I don't have any comparison.

yeah... I'd like to hear this theory as well. Care to reveal this rare SBC?

I stopped using gaskets... I decided to use RTV... much cheaper than buying gasket for everything.seemed to work well on my Heads install.. Cant wait to start it up and see what it runs like. Im sure it'll have a bit more compression with use the RTV instead of the head gasket.

Ive added headers on no less than 6 thirdgen TPI motors, each one did not have any ex manifold gaskets or metal shims, now both my LT1s (93, 97) have had em.

I put the felpros on dry.
