fan and temp sensor?
fan and temp sensor?
hey everyone i just bought my self a 94 trans am with 89,000 miles the other day. I've notcied the car will get hot often(not in the red but almost to the line sometimes). Ne ways my intial instinct was maybee this thermostat is ****ed up. So i went and got a 180. it went in fine and helped a little. However i then noticed that my fans were never really going on. Also all the sudden my a/c which was kicking like mad cold, was now making a noise out the compresser like the clutch is slipping on it. any ways i used my friends decoder and the fans went on like they should when u have the ignition and decoder in and found no problems bec the engine lights didnt blink. Then i was tinkering with the car and found sometimes putting on my a/c turned the fans on and would go on and off regulatng the 180 temp like the usual stock. then it would stop after 5-10 minutes. Do you guys thing this could be do to a bad temp sensor in the water pump or is there ne thing else that could cause this, because my fans work but just arent gouing on?

I also would not program your fans to come on at 160°. They would never go off.

Shoebox cleared up the stock fan settings.

I wouldn't get a 160.. I've seen people's cars run hotter with 160 than 180, because the tstat is always open, and the coolant never gets the chance to really cool down, or so goes their theory.
I also agree with shoebox about the fans.
How is your coolant level?
What is your coolant mixture (parts water : parts ethylene glycol)?
Did you try bleeding the air from the system?
