False knock. I think.
False knock. I think.
Well i just put in my OBDII to OBDI conversion from Ion at madz28. He also did some custom programming to it like the power tune or whatever it is where you have to run 91+ octane. Well i took it to the dyno a few days later and the guy at the dyno says that im getting knock from somewhere. So he used tunercat or something to turn off the knock sensor at WOT runs and i think he did something so that i only see 8º of knock retard because thats all i see on my scanmaster.
Every time i drive my car i get up to 8º of knock retard. It happens around 2000 rpm when im barely on the throttle. Just giveing it enough gas to accelerate.
Im running 92 octane from BP so i dont think its real knock. Im going to run some 100 or whatever i can get to make sure its not real whenever i get a chance.
So where am i getting the KR from. Any help will be much appreciated.

Re: False knock. I think.
Did you swap in the "OBD-I" knock sensor (4.4Kohms), or did Ion make an internal modifiaction to the OBD-I PCM so it would work with your 100Kohm sensor?
Re: False knock. I think.
My PCM is an OBD1 conv from madz28. When I installed it I got some retard. After running 100 octane and still getting similar retard, I installed an LT4 knock module. The retard went away.
I would strongly recommend not running 87 ish octane fuel with lt4 module. I run 93 with no problem.
And as you are planning, make sure the retard is not due to true knock.
Either of the above can cause major engine damage.

Re: False knock. I think.
I have an LT4 KM and Ion desensitized the KS a little too. The highest octane i can get around here is 92 without haveing to go to expensive race gas.
Re: False knock. I think.
I'm not real knowledgable about this stuff but I know the knock sensor circuit is there for a very good reason. If you disable the circuit when it is actually doing it's job, you run a very good chance of breaking a piston or ring. So I would say no it would not be safe. If you have an LT4 module and Ion has also modified the PCM, and you still are gaining knock counts on your log file after the initial cranking counts, there is likely a problem somewhere. Finding the actual source of the knock or verifying whether the knock is 'actual' or 'false' would be my first concern.
