Tuning newbie - I got questions for those who have gone before......
I'm just getting into tuning, mainly due to the hotcam add. From the board I gather that the stock tune should work OK for the hotcam, but I could optimize with a little tuning.
Here's where I'm at. Drivability is pretty good, no real major complaints and no DTC's. Minor complaints....
1) the idle is fairly rough...I'd like to smooth it out some. How?
2) BLM's indicate compensation for lean condition. These numbers are averages based on a rather extensive Datamaster log. The numbers were similar before the cam, just about 5 points higher across the board.
Cell 8 129 128
5 122 126
9 128 130
2 125 134
6 126 129
10 136 137
14 147 147
3 128 133
7 132 134
11 142 145
15 152 154
16 128 132
17 128 132
18 126 127
Can I program these closer to 128? and how?, or should I even worry about it considering the computer is already making a compensation? I've done some homework with searches, but there's alot out there to read. Am I right to understand the VE tables are only used for open loop in MAF cars? Seems that I've read posts agreeing and disagreeing with this.
3) I'm still getting some KR. It jumps over 10 points when I goose it, and then quickly settles back to less than 2 when holding WOT. I even see a bit at idle on occasion. I've tried the LT4-KM, but it seemed to only amplify the KR. My stocker is back in now. I've tried 100 octane with no diffence and replaced all components of the knock detection system. I'm 99% certain its false knock. Any program hints to get rid of this?
I'll keep reading and seaching, but a little help to get me started in the right direction is much appreciated.
TIA for any help.
Brett

Never done a cam but have heard you turn the idle up to smooth it out.
I think I would worry about cell 15, thats wot, right? I would make the PE richer (works only in Wot).
I would try a little desensitizing on the knock line and see if that helps at all. I could email you the circuit calculator and instructions.
