Re: failed inspection. codes 61/67

ppm of what- HC, CO or NOx?

DTC 61 - A/C system performance

DTC 67 - A/C refrigerant pressure sensor circuit

Hard to believe they would fail you for A/C problems. Or did you only fail because of one of the pollutants?

What are the numbers for CO and NOx - max allowable and your test results?

Re: failed inspection. codes 61/67

When was the last time it had a tune up? Including O2s?

How does it run cold and hot at idle and at speed?

Does it use any oil?

What about fuel mileage?

Re: failed inspection. codes 61/67

it has been awhile, and i've been low on $.

it runs fine but it sounds a lil heavy to me, like too much exhaust

not sure what you mean, but i just got the oil changed.

i rarely go too far, i go thru a tank a week. once i hit 1/2 a tank its like it emptys faster.

Re: failed inspection. codes 61/67

I believe some of what speedy was getting at is this- if you moniter your fuel mileage and experience a drop it lets you know at that point of a problem. To moniter requires filling it and writing down mileage and then writing the gallons and then doing the division. If its all highway or all city it will vary and mixed driving will be between the two. You can also tell a problem if say you should be getting 24mpg while highway driving and your only getting 18(your burning too much fuel). The o2 sensors can be pretty important and exhaust leaks can cause problems. Fred(injuneer) posted something recently of other areas on an o2 sensor that can mess up the reading(very interesting). The oil smelling of fuel can also point to problems. Try to answer as many questions as your asked as these guys can eliminate things based on good answers. May be time for the tune up. Alot can be achieved in the actual tuning of the car particularly with mods but certain perameters effect that too like the o2 the maf being dirty. Bad plugs or wires., false knock

Re: failed inspection. codes 61/67

thank you. i do try to answer to the best of my knowledge. guess im still a noob. lol! ill see abt a tuneup next week. and i do think im consuming too much fuel. i was once told to fill up every time i hit 1/2 a tank. wish i had the time and the knowledge to do some of this myself. my mechanic may not be the most reliable all the time, but he's affordable right now. and this site has helped me a great deal. thank you to everyone willing to lend me a hand.
also, its hard for me to tell how much fuel im losing because i drive like 5 min. a day. work is right down the road. hell, i'd bike if there weren't so many hills. lol!

Re: failed inspection. codes 61/67

Probably the reason you have been advised to keep half a tank or more is it will preserve the fuel pump. If the pump is submerged it stays cooler and will prolong its life. Hey im kind of a noob too lol so no shame in not knowing something. Everyone learbed what they know its just some have an easier time. I also know it gets frustrating trying to figure out whats wrong with the car and we can bring our frustration to the message boards. Plus if people dont see some effort with their advice or questions they tend to not be as willing to help as we ultimately have to help ourselves. You will get it worked out and these guys can help you save time and money. A simple thing like avoiding a brand or getting a brand can save alot. In fact even with a "simple" tune up advice and recomendations can be very helpful. Its also best to not just buy new parts without proper diagnosis.

true. i've been mostly trying to save money around here. i feel like most of the shops are out to jip me.my last mechanic, who i've been going to for abt a year with a different car, started rapidly raising his prices. for example, he wanted to charge me $900 just to get an opti. work not included. i mean seriously? wtf!

Re: failed inspection. codes 61/67

sorry for the late response. the filter had fallen off the intake. I had a new one put on only for it to fall off again. it was put back on tighter then passed 218/220. took thru abt 6 times altogether. then same day I passed the muffler got a rip in the pipe. just got it replaced. lol!
