Failed emmissions. Need help.
Failed emmissions. Need help.
Today I was hoping to pass the emmissions test because I just had the catalytic converter put back on. My hydrocarbons were 4 times the legal limit. What doesn't make any sense is that the numbers for that particular test didn't change even with the converter on. We even tried leaning out the mixture as much as possible but that didn't help any. The other 2 tests passed with flying colors. (carbon monoxide and oxides of nitrogen). My cam is the GM846. I've heard of guys getting the cc306 to pass.
Re: Failed emmissions. Need help.
Yea your going to have to get some kind of a emission tune man. Plus change out the plugs, wires, o2's. I'm not sure what the specs are on that cam. But if there is a decent amount of valve overlap, its going to hurt you.
Are you trying to pass with high flow cats? Because I was told those arent really good for much.

Re: Failed emmissions. Need help.
Thanks for the reply. The specs for the cam (222/230, .543/.563, 112 lsa). The converter is not high flow, actually it's a factory cat for this car. I'm not too sure what kind of tuning it will take to improve the hydrocarbons. When it was richer, hydrocarbons got worse, but the other 2 tests got better. I think we tuned it to be as lean as we could get it while still being safe.
