Any idea how long you were running that rich? It wouldn't take long to either kill or reduce the cat's effectiveness which could be why your seeing elevated CO & NO.

Did you read any of the stuff I linked to above?? If not read
this and goto page 4 which has causes of excessive CO. You obviously have a problem that the alcohol isn't able to mask.

It might be easier to cut the cat off the y-pipe and weld another on than risk broken manifold bolts. Luckily I didn't need my manifolds because of the headers otherwise I'd have been in a pinch bacause we broke several off trying to get the stock y-pipe off.

Well i'm thinking my cat pretty much blew itself out at some point before I had the car, so that means it's pretty much gutted, right? and putting on a new cat will quiet it down a little, right? if thats the case then I don't want to lose the sound because I actually like it. If I can get my hands on a cat that I can just put on there and maybe make some sort of fittings for both cats and on the end of the y-pipe so i can just bolt them on and off...think I can do that?? Will a muffler shop be able to do this?

Any shop can do it although some wont because of legal reasons. If the insides are blown out a new cat will quiet it down alot. I had a three point flange welded onto my y-pipe so that I can swap my cat with my off road pipe whenever I want and the noise level without the cat on is considerably louder.

Alot of people have good luck with Carsound cat's do a search and see what you come up with. Some can be found on ebay in the 40 dollar range although I dont know what model they are and what size engine they are rated for. I've bought one from www.exhaustproslinc.com before and had good cust service from them and thier prices are pretty good too.

sounds good to me...now how about this?

For some reason muffler shops are charging a lot to put one on around here...can't I just take a torch to it and weld it on myself? actually I would be having fittings welded on for a quick replacement.

You wont be able to weld it with a torch. It cost me 65 bux in labor to have my flanges welded on to my y-pipe and high flow cat.
