Exhaust leak tip, that I found.

I'm almost done putting together my blown 383 motor when I found the source of some exhaust leaks that were driving my BLM's crazy at times on the right side.

1-The EGR tube that connects to the backside of the intake and goes goes to the rightside SLP header was split on the inside bend towards the firewall. This was impossible to see when the car was all together.

2-On my SLP headers, again where the EGR tube connects to the header, SLP has a 4-5 inch 2 bolt tube extender that meets the EGR tube. I was trying to put my header back on and the tube got in the way. So, I had to unbolt the tube, guess what I found, another exhaust leak area. The 2 pieces did not mate together well. The gasket was black on one side from the exhaust. The 2 pieces bowed out from the center. I held them up to the light and could not beleive the gap.

I took my belt sander to sand both sides smooth again.

I've read alot of threads here about the BLM's being off and I thought that I would post this for possible areas to look for.

Hope this helps.

Scott

ya know , my passenger side BLM's are also way off while the drivers side is perfect. Maybe I should check that . I have yet to find a Vacuum leak as far as hoses go and something has to be letting air in .

You know, its a funny thing, it's aways on the driverside. It was something I had to leave with. I wouldn't have known about those ethier if it wasn't for my engine rebuild. Its really hard too see until you start taking everything apart.

Glad I could shed some light.
