Exhaust hardware kit?
Exhaust hardware kit?
I recently (December) installed a Dynomax Ultraflo SS catback on my Caprice and I really like the sound. Unfortunately, Dynomax doesn't make an Ultraflo SS catback for my Camaro, so I wanted to put something together.
For now, I am keeping the stock manifolds, Y-pipe and cat, so whatever I get needs to interface directly to the cat, with no modifications (I will be doing the work myself). Do these cars use a 3" cat or smaller?
Assuming they use a 3" cat, I was going to get the Dynomax 3" intermediate pipe, which also has a 2nd section then the Ultraflo Welded 3" in dual 2 1/2" side outs. Then I'd use the right and left side tail pipes. The only other thing I'd need is some tips and random mounting hardware.
My question for the forum is, is there a kit that includes the necessary brackets/clamps/hardware? Or am I going to have to piecemeal that, as well?
The above puts me at $270 + tips + shipping. I'd be looking at probably $350 total, if I had to guess.
Finally, I understand the 2OTL exhausts typically flow better because of the muffler design. Should I worry about this with a car that is otherwise bone stock? I think I'd prefer the look of dual exits but I'll take comments. I don't see an Ultraflo muffler that would work in the 2OTL style, only Super Turbos.

Re: Exhaust hardware kit?
I personally love the way that the Dynomax ultra flows sound. They flow very good as well. If you don't mind the look of a single outlet you can retain your stock 3" intermediate pipe, and hook up a Ultra Flow muffler. If You can only find a single out let muffler you have a couple options, 1 you could do a single hide-away tip..like some mufflex exhausts use. 2 You could just run the one tailpipe with a dual outlet tip....that wouldn't look bad at all either. Dynomax Utlra Flo mufflers are def one of the best sounding mufflers IMO.
Re: Exhaust hardware kit?
Right, that's what I had gathered. Like I said, I have an Ultraflo SS catback on my Caprice and I think it's great. What I wanted to know was, can I get the Ultraflo Welded muffler I linked to, and the intermediate pipe stuff and bolt it all on the car? Or is stuff not compatible? What is the diameter of the cat output? 3" or less?
EDIT: I re-read your reply. So the stock intermediate piping is 3". Is there no reason to upgrade that? I mean, maybe it's mandrel bent...but if I could skip that (assuming mine is in good condition), it'd save me $100+. Sounds like I should get that Ultraflo Welded muffler, and the two tail pipes for each side of the car, and decide on some tips.
Does anybody see a need to upgrade the intermediate pipe?

Re: Exhaust hardware kit?
FYI for everyone. There is a $75/$50/$25 rebate from Dynomax on Ultraflo SS, Ultraflo Welded, and Super Turbo mufflers, respectively. So I'll get $50 back for my 17227 welded muffler. Seems like a good excuse to me...now I just have to decide on tips. Who wants to help?

It's a Dynomax rebate, so you don't have to order through Jegs.

Re: Exhaust hardware kit?
Alright I think I put an exhaust kit together.
Here is the list of parts I have assembled:
Dynomax Ultraflo SS 2 1/2" in, dual 2 1/2" opposite out (like stock)
(2) Hooker 2 1/2" to 3 1/2" slash cut tips, 11" long
Dynomax right and left side 2 1/2" tail pipes
Dynomax 3" stainless band clamp
(2) Dynomax 2 1/2" stainless band clamps
With the $75 rebate Dynomax has going, this comes in at $238.91 shipped from Jegs. The only thing I don't know about is hangers for the muffler. Any help?
I just went out into the parking lot at work and measured the intermediate pipe where it goes into the stock muffler. I got 2 1/2". Fortunately, this allows me to run the 17266 Ultraflo SS like I originally wanted.
Thoughts on hanging method? What in the Dynomax Super Turbo catback kit do I need to buy to hang something myself? Just a few details left!
