Is MSD/other aftermarket coil worth it?

Just like the subject says, is there any real benefit of an MSD/other aftermarket coil vs a new stock one?

Yes. Stock coils are marginal at best.

many here have had problems with the MSD coil. Mine didnt last very long, so I just put a stock replacement one on. It keeps my 383 fired just fine.

The best single-coil inductive-discharge ignition system for an LT1/LT4 is the STOCK '96 ignition system (this is an upgrade for the '92 to '95 LT1). The coil and igntion module (they should be used together) were designed to take the LT4 to the extended 6400 rpm limit.
In addition, it was designed with the best compromise for performance and longevity.
