Evap system experts inside please!!
i have had a lot of trouble getting my car started. it takes like 3 times of key on key off, to get it to barely start, then i drive it for a while and then stop. like 10 minutes later when i try and start it, my car will sit there and chug and shake, and rpm will constantly decline unless i keep rompin the gas pedal.
i am throwing the p1441 code which is the "Evaporative Emissions (EVAP) system flow during non-purge" code.
about a month ago i was driving and stopped at a gas station with car running, i opened the door and frome the driver side rear i could hear a growling that lasted like 3 seconds and then would stop for like a minute and then come back again. not to mention the headache cause gas fumes i always smell now.
the charcoal canister is back there and that is what im assuming the problem is.
The Main Question: does the canister cause starting problems if it does not funtion properly?

Take the P0336 first.... that is a problem with the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor circuit. If it was disconnected, it would set P0335. Seems like the output might be erratic. It should not affect anything, since the CKP is used for misfire detection only.
If you have "EEC flow during non-purge", and if you had a saturated EEC canister (gurgling sound???) it is conceivable that the intake vacuum is pulling raw fuel into the intake. That would certainly make it harder to start, and idle poorly. Just speculation as to the problem. To see if that is the cause, remove the EEC line completely from the side of the TB, and plug the vacuum port on the TB, then try and start it, to see if the problem is reduced.

I had really strong odor of gas outside my 96 Formula after driving for a while, but no SES codes. I took it to a very advanced service station, that has state-of-the-art EVAP testing equipment. They hooked it all up and traced it to a valve that sits on top of the gas tank. They would have to drop the tank to replace it so I told them to forget about it.
When the car was new, the dealer replaced the canister under warranty because of an SES light. The actual problem was a piece of charcoal getting lodged inside of one of the vacuum lines, but they didn't figure it out until they had already replaced the canister.

There's not much to the CKP system. A reluctor ring on the crank, just inside the timing cover, and a sensor that plugs into the timing cover. Check the wiring harness and connector first. Make sure you don't have any extraneous high voltage wires contacting the harness. Then maybe borrow a sensor from somone and swap out.
