Error Scanning Pcm

Every since i've had my car i've never been able to get it scanned. Autozone doesn't understand that i have a 95 and it has a ob1 computer with a ob2 connector. And everyone else that seems to know what i'm talking about can never get it to scan. The last guy that tried to scan it said it would connect and everything but then it would say Error key in ignition and the key wasen't even in there. Does anyone know what would cause this?

Thanks Blaze

They either need the correct adapter plug to allow the 12-pin OBD-I ALDL connector on the OBD-I scanner to plug into the 16-pin OBD-II ALDL connector on the car....... or they need to jumper the wires as shown on Shoebox's Tech Page:
