I just purchased a car and put sythetic in with a bottle of Lucal oil stabilizer since thats what the prev owner was using. My advice is to just get some good oil that is on sale at Autozone or whatever you prefer. I think the most impportant thing is the filter anyways
Not true. All you have to do is submit the used oil for an analysis on a regular basis.

Serious mistake. Do not use a FRAM. They have gotten some of the worst reviews possible. I had major problems with them. Maybe they have improved over the 10 years or so since they got the really bad reviews, but I wouldn't put a FRAM filter on a pedal car.....

yea i agree that fram is not a good filter brand for oil or air period. i have been using amsoil's oil filter and once i finally get my oil change done in about 8k miles i will send it in to get it tested. right now im running amsoils 5w30 with their filter. its suppose to be good up to 30k miles but personally i think 15k should be ok to send it in and have it tested to see how much wear is getting done to the engine(just bought a new motor 9k miles ago).

Is Amosil really worth it and does it really work for a year without changing with no dmg to the engine or excessive wear?

if someone does do some research, there are not to many oil filter manufactures. royal purple does have a new filter that is very very strong. as for me I use a purone gold filter. Wix or baldwin are good also.

I just change mine with Amsoil every 3,000 miles anyways. Good practice. I really do need to start sending it out for analysis though so I can compare it to Mobil 1 or Castrol Syntec.

looks like a lot of people use amsoil. maybe ill give it a try if it will save money. My biggest concern is it finding a way out after its all sealed up. Id hate for it to clean something internally and then have it go by the rings or something lol.

They have not improved. My company is a long time supplier to Honeywell and they constantly drive to the lowest possible cost to stay competitive. If you need an example of this in action, just cut open a fram filter and a Moroso. Fram actually uses a paper washer at the end of the filter stack where Moroso uses a metal one. In addition, this paper is a lot thinner than before. These things fail and the paper clogs oil passageways which doesnm't strike me as a particularly good thing.

I know Moroso doesn't make their own filters but I don't know whoi does it for them. I don't have half the engine some of you have but I wouldn't use anything less than a Moroso on mine....neither should you.

a guy at my local oriellys dosent like the fram oil filters either. they actually had one cut open on display to show the poor quality, compared to their orielly brand (which he recommended). but now, he said he dont like the orielly brand cause they got BOUGHT out by fram..lol. they carry acdelco filters now to, so i'll probably go with them...cant beat a delco
