Question engine swap

I need a new engine and funds are tight, so here goes .....i own a 94 z28 and have the option of 2 motors i can buy , one is 94 lt1 out of camaro with 70 thousand miles on it , the other is a lt1 out of a 95 trans am with 30 thousand mile on it . I would like to get the the one out of the trans am because not only does it have less miles on it but its also several hundred dollars cheaper. what i would like to know is if the 95 lt1 out of the trans am will work in my 94 camaro?

Yes, but you will have to either change the cam or modify the dowel pin in the cam.

Are you new to LT1'S? If you are here is your new Bible http://shbox.com/1/4th_gen_tech1.html

Here is an article on a cam swap http://shbox.com/ci/cam_install.html

Welcome to CZ28

Complete engine and opti? Yes. The opti end harness is different, so you will need the one that fits the 1995. If it does not have an opti, you will need the vented 95 version and it's vent/vacuum lines. Providing more specifics about what you are swapping would help with giving any further needed advice.

If you are buying a complete engine, you don't have to worry about the fact that the 95 has the vented Opti and your 94 doesn't. You would only change the cam/dowel (along with timing set and timing cover) if you were trying to mix a 94 Opti with a 95 engine, or a 95 Opti with a 94 engine. If you are doing a complete engine swap, you put the 95 engine in the 94 chassis, then get a 95-97 replacement for the short harness that runs from the gray connector on the side of the intake manifold, to the Opti (the Opti terminal is different on the 95). You will also have to pick up the vacuum harness for the vented 95 Opti.

PS: Why are you asking the same question on two different forums, under 2 different screen names? Shoebox already answered the same question on the "General 1967-2002 F-Body Tech" forum, where you posted under the screen name "rtwlr36" (same IP address). Which of the 2 duplicate accounts would you like us to close?

i installed a 95 LT1 out of a T/A into my 94 Z-28. I ordered the 95 vent tubes off ebay for my opti and you will also need a pig tail from a 95 that plugs into your opti. Both of which i bought off ebay. easy swap. any questions just email me at curt4nu@yahoo.com. Curt

I'll merge this with an identical thread under a different screen name.
