Engine shuts off after running for a while
Sorry to comment on an old thread but im at my wits end...
I have a 93 LT1 i have just replaced the icm, coil, opti, water pump 4 days ago and it may run for an hour or two before it cuts off or 10 mins... It doesnt miss just cuts off... It ran for an hour in the shop on a diagnostic machine and did not die UNTIL i left... Some time it will start back up immediately and sometime 10-30mins later... Sometimes the battery is very weak after an episode... Could it be the Ecm? Puzzled

I think you should start your own thread because this one is in reguards to the delteq system. They experienced heat sink issues and have been out of business for a while. You also sound as if your is either heat sink or battery charge related. I would go further into detail what you meant because if your battery is drained may point elsewere or possible what you describe there may be pointing at another problem or the problem. Something I would try is the icm and coil spacing mod( it spaces them off the head). I also would be sure to keep well over a 1/4 tank of gas in it as the fuel in the tank is what cools fuel pump. May be very helpful to test fuel pressure before and during its no start(or die) episode as variation there may point to the pump.

Re: Car starts and runs for 5mins, then shuts off and no more spark
Agreed - not likely to get good responses tacked on to a thread that turns out to be about Delteq.
I'll move this to a new thread

Re: Engine shuts off after running for a while
OK... now that we moved it, let's see if we can help you.
Did the problem exist BEFORE you replaced all those parts, and you changed them to try and fix it, or did the problem develop only AFTER you replaced all those parts?
You indicate that the engine failed AFTER you left the "diagnostic machine". Are you aware that if a code shuts the engine down, that code is stored in the ECM for a fairly long period of time? And that you can retrieve the codes with a paper clip? Shoebox shows you how:

There are a couple "fatal" codes, like DTC 16 for the Opti cam position sensor low resolution pulse signal, the do not turn on the SES light, but will shut down the engine. First thing you shouild do is see if there are any stored codes in the ECM. There are also codes for the ICM that would indicate if that is the problem.

Yes your post is a little generalized as I assumed car was in the shop on diagnostic machine to solve the "issue" and all the parts may or may not have been swapped to solve the problem. The more specific about some of the things the less apt we are to assume wrong. As said above scan for codes even if the ses light is not on( I assumed being in shop for diagnosis it would be done but thats not always the case) and provide if any codes were - are present. If the parts were changed to solve the problem has the problem changed any? As you can see from our point of view we do some assuming that may or may not be helpful.
