engine removal write ups

A while ago I found a write up with pictures of someone that did it to their red firebird, but I can't seem to find it. The two I have are:
http://www.michiganspeed.com/enginepull/index.html
http://ken.lowrance.com/Projects/Hea...ineRemoval.htm

If anyone else knows the other one that would be great. He also had separate write ups for opti R&R, headers, etc...

Re: engine removal write ups

well I just want to be sure I have a good idea...this will be my first time doing it, so I guess i'm a little nervous about it. That and not exactly sure what specialty tools i'll need. I'm planning on starting this tomorrow.

Re: engine removal write ups

well the wiring wasn't as bad as I thought it would be...seemed to be only 4 connectors under the dash and the connectors to the computer...seems all I need to do now is figure the A/C out. I guess I have to discharge it somehow and figure out what lines to disconnect...wish there was a way I didn't have to do this....

Re: engine removal write ups

If you can avoid it, please don't discharge the A/C system, find a friend with a collection system. If you can't avoid it, find a friend with a set of gauges who knows how to use em, hel'l be able to get better results discharging. If you cant find someone with gauges then goto autozone pick up a recharge kit, its a simple little adaptor that hooks one end to a can of refigerant and one end to the line, the line youl'l want to discharge is right next to the radiator cap if i remember correctly. just hook the charging hose up there then open the other end thats supposed to goto the can without a can attached. Be sure to do this in a well ventilated area, my father knew someone who died from refigerant inhalation. when you go to take the lines off they should detach right on the compressor.

Re: engine removal write ups

you can just take the compressor off the motor and leave it in the car, then you dont have to disconnect anything...as far as that wiring...its much easier to just disconnect all the wires from the sensors and stuff and leave the computer in the car...you gotta take the harness of the motor anyway...may as well just leave it in the car

Re: engine removal write ups

well i didn't get to do too much to it today, except finding what I needed to get those fuel lines off was a PITA! I do have one question...on the strut towers, two of the bolts on the driver side are torx bolts(why the hell did they do that??) anyone know what size it is to get those off? biggest I have is T40 and it's too small..maybe t50???

Re: engine removal write ups

its either t50 or t55 , and in responst to the guy up a few posts, it is much easier to pull the motor by just diconnecting the connectors under the dash, in total, there are only 6(93-94)or 7(95-97) connectors to the car from the harness

yeah but my point is since the harness has to come off the motor anyway once its out...it takes less time to just take it off while the motor is still in the car, it only takes 5 min. to take it off/put it back on anyway, and you dont have to unbolt the computer or dig under the dash finding wires, i dunno how that is easier...

also, for next time, just unbolt the fuel rails from the intake and leave them in the car as well...then you do not have to disconnect the fuel lines from it...and about that torx, i think its a t55, ive got it somewhere if you cannot find one...

Me and my friend were removing a 99 Cobra Engine and while messing with the lines it exploded in our face. Glad nothing bad happened.

And just about everything is off the old motor that i'm going to reuse(water pump, alt, basically the accessories) the hard part now is getting the old off the k-member, and removing the tranny....not sure how i'm going to do that
