Engine no power no crank after adding fuel pump

I bought a 96 trans am from a gentleman about a month ago I knew it was a fixer upper however he only wanted 1000.00 for the car and it only had 75k on the engine.

When I got the car it would crank but it would not start. I was told that it needed a fuel pump.

I bought a new pump installed it, plugged the battery in and nothing. No power at all to the engine.

I replaced the battery, checked the starter, bypassed the vats. Still nothing.

The dashboard lights also have no power now unless I manually turn them on. None of the guages are working either .

Any suggestions please help.

If you have lights and nothing else it really sounds like VATS or an Ignition switch.

Which dashboard lights “have no power .... unless turned on manually”? The idiot lights, the gauge lights, or both? How are you turning them on manually?

Have you checked the fusible link at the red plastic “+” box near the battery?
