Have it scanned, so you don't have to guess. That's the purpose of the light.

The PCM stores any codes that are set. They're in there. What are you using to scan?

You could be a little more informative with your answers so that we can help you a bit better.

Yep, not much info to go on. We don't even know what he is driving.

You need to provide info about your car - year, model, engine, tranny and any major mods. That's what the "Signature" feature is for. Might want to add one.

For example... is your car OBD-I or OBD-II? Is it a 93, where you can flash the codes on the SES light by shorting the pins with a paper clip? Is it a 95, where things get complicated by the OBD-I PCM, coupled with a 16-pin OBD-II style ALDL connector. If its OBD-II, does the SES light flash, indicating a misifre, or is it steady.

If the SES light comes on, the code is stored. Its going to be there if scanned correctly.

It could be the opti, it might not be the opti. The '95 has the OBDII ALDL port, but it is OBDI. Confuses a lot of people, including experienced mechanics. You really need to find someone who has the proper scan tool and cable to perform a scan on it.

Or use an OBD-I scanner with a 12-pin connector, and jumper it to the 95's 16-pin connector as shown on Shoebox's site:
