My engine is being pulled because I have oil leaks coming from almost everywhere. Since it will be out, I'd like to get a new cam, but know nothing about them. I am looking at the Comp Cams 305 or the 224/230. Will tuning be required for either of these?

What all should be bought along with the cam to make sure everything runs right? The guy at the shop suggested a new timing chain. Anything else?

 

i have the xe 230 236 112 it works pretty good and makes deasent power, and sounds awsome. with 3:73 and the a4 it runs smooth at 65. the cam surge levels around 22-2500 rpm.

For a daily driver I would stick with the 224/230

 

Will the 224/230 work fine without tuning and 1.6 rockers? Would a new timing chain really be needed?

 

After any cam you would be crazy not to tune the thing to run at its best. I have the 227/233 and it definately needed a good tune. Madwolf did mine for inder 100 bucks and it ran much better. A timing chain will only be like 20 bucks and is needed. Don't skimp or you will pay dearly later.
