Emission Cheating Guru's HELP!

In my part of Illinois we are required to take our cars for emission testing. My 97 Formula, is OBD-II car. So when I took it last year, all they did was hook it up to pcm connector, and check my gas cap. And that was it, very quick and simple, no sniffer on the dyno. So here comes the questions.

I just ordered my Jet-Hot's with out the air and egr fittings, because jet hot is on back order on th ones with the air and egr. So is there a way to cheat the pcm, so I can still pass emissions. Because Im going to have speed inc install them, I was wondering if they would know or not. Just wondering.

Good thing I dont have to be tested for an other year or so.

They should be able to program the emissions fittings out of your computer and then you will still pass

Don't know anyone that can get you a fake emissions test certificate??
I know several guys with 3rg gen f-bodies, that arent emissions legal and do this. Our e-testing here is 30 bucks, it only costs them another 30 to get a fake one.

I don't know about "emissions fittings", but I do know that they need certain readings from your PCM and if they don't get them, you don't pass. JMHO

Ed Wright deleted certain readouts from my PCM when he programed it. I had to reinstall my stocker to pass.

We may be talking apples and .....here.

.

I have JETHOT LT and i passed emis. The company that installed them also programed out the emis. stuff in the PCM, If they didnt i would get an SES light.

Try asking in the programming section

But it worked for me!

Just an idea, but i'm going to school out in phoenix, so i cant get my car back to ohio for testing so i get a waiver to fill out saying i'm at school. I dont know how much checking they do to find out if you're really in school somewhere, but maybe you can take that route. I also got the Jet-Hots with emission hook-ups just incase i need them in the future

It should fail if its missing air/egr and been programmed out because it will say not ready when they go and check it. 96-6speed has LTs on his Z28 and it cant pass in Harris county because its missing the air/egr stuff.

In Texas if you live in a county 9 months out of the year you can have it inspected in the country your in.

find out what they do if the OBDII port isn't "easily accessible" or they "can not communicate" with the PCM.

Most states have a clause that if the OBDII port is unavailable (say it's behind a big speaker box), or the computer won't connect (perhaps you spliced in weatherpack connectors to the OBDII harness and forgot to plug them in ) that you're allowed to run a sniffer test like pre-emmissions vehicles.

To pass a sniffer:
- use a stock thermostate
- deactive the electric fans (pull fuse, reprogram, or jsut unplug them)
- run a gallon of short-carbon-chain alcohol in the tank. Look for denatured alcohols at drug stores (ethanol or iso-propanol... just try to get a high alcohol % mixture, as the remaning % is usually water). DO NOT do this OR fill the tank the same day as the sniffer. Testing on a full tank, or sloshing the fuel around with hard cornering is a great way to fill your carbon canister with fuel (bad for HC levels when testing).

- get the car up to 60mph and cruise at low rpms for about 5 to 10 minutes on the highway... this will help empty the carcoal canister which is a common sourse of HC spikes.

- drive the last few blocks in the lowest gear you have and get the RPMS's around 3000 to keep it hot (without red-lining your engine).

- do NOT shut off the car while waiting in line, and try to test at low-demand times (like the middle of the month, and outside the lunch-hour rush).

If you have access to editing software:
- raise the fan turn on-temps
- raise the idle speed to ~100 below the state's max idle speed (WA uses a 1100 rpm max for testing... we try to set idles at 1000 to keep the engines hot and piston speeds up for more effieciency). Any test station can tell you what the max idle rpm is that they'll test.

If HC level are still ugly, you can try this... but note that this is a sniffer ONLY tune, and you should NOT go WOT with it:
- advance the timing 5 to 8 degrees beyond stock
- set the red-line around 3000 rpms (to prevent hitting peak VE and possible detonation)
- use unleaded race gas (104 octane) to help prevent detonation.

If NOx levels are too high, try retarding the timing a few degrees to cool the combustion chamber. You will be giving up a few points in the HC situation, but usually its one or the other that will fail you. If its both you have some serious problems.

cool thanks. I would hope I wouldnt have to put it under the sniffer. But If I had to, I would use your info. Plus I had a few idea's of my own too. But like I said hopefully they can just cheat the computer. Good thing I got an other year or two to go.

But it seems like the Illinois guys who posted here, know of OBD-II guys, who got around it. So I'm sure if they did, I can. Thanks Again.
