That's exactly what it was.....The contacts inside were done. That explains the smoke that my girlfriend saw come from the steering collumn a few times. Had it replaced and now I'm good to go. Seems to be once that magic smoke leaks out of an electronic device it doesnt work anymore...So I hope the new switch can hold in that magic smoke!
